Social Gifting and Wish Lists

One trend in e-commerce that’s arriving is the ability to collaboratively purchase gifts. While we do it with charity raises, now you can get together with friends and raise money to purchase a more expensive gift for a friend. It’s a great idea and one that will drive larger purchases online. Countmein is such an application:

A whopping $244 bucks, that’s the average cost of the top gifts from 2000 to 2011. Holidays, graduations, weddings: it all adds up. How much you ask? Exploring this infographic, you’ll find that costs are continuing to sky rocket with hot electronics being the most sought after gifts including smart phones, tablets and e-readers, totalling an average of almost $800 in 2011 for the annual spend. And, if you’re a parent with multiple kids you’re facing a major outlay. It’s a far jump from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, WWF action figures and pogs – just have a peek around at any mall – how many 5 year olds can you spot with iPads and Leap Frog?
