Audio and Video Transcription Made Easy: Speechpad

When we’ve written about YouTube optimization in the past, one of the keys was having a detailed description. YouTube doesn’t machine transcribe and interpret the verbiage in your video (yet), so relying on the information you detail in your video description is still critical.

Jay Baer of Convince and Convert recommended Speechpad to us. They have transcribed over 1,230,645 minutes of audio and video for clients large and small.

How Speechpad works

  1. Create an account – In order to get transcriptions of your audio or video files you’ll first need to create an account. Creating an account takes less than 30 seconds; name, email address, and password. That’s it.
  2. Upload your files – After you’ve created your account, you can immediately upload files directly from your computer or point to files already online. You can upload files one at a time or as many as you’d like in a single upload. They currently support the following audio and video file formats: aac, aif, aiff, amr, au, avi, cda, dct, dss, gsm, flac, flv, m4a, m4v, mpeg, mpg, mid, mov, mp2, mp3, mp4, mpga, ogg, raw, shn, sri, video, vox, wav, wma, and wmv.
  3. Place your order – After you’ve uploaded your files all you need to do is let them know when you’d like your transcriptions done. They offer three turnaround time options: One Week ($1.00/minute), 48 Hours ($1.50/minute) and 24 Hours ($2.50/minute)

The faster you’d like your transcriptions done, the more it costs; no surprise there. Regardless of turnaround time, you will always know EXACTLY how much each transcription will cost before you place your order. There are no hidden fees, period.

  1. I can attest, Speechpad is a great service with a clean, simple interface and fast reliable service. We use them regularly.

  2. I like SpeakerText better due to their easy integration with YouTube. They also have a neat interactive tool that you can use when embedding video transcriptions in your blogs.

  3. I have noticed one thing they have mentioned that the minimum cost for transcription services, is not Suitable for YouTube, Vimeo. Does it mean we have to select higher plan?

    • With Speechpad’s $1/minute product, you get a transcription without time stamps. If you want subtitles that can be submitted to youtube, you need to order captions (starting at $1.50/minute). It’s a great price for the quality you get.
