Manage Your Videos Online with Backlight | Marketing Technology Blog

About a month ago, I got to watch a demonstration of Backlight – a video hosting and management system built by the great folks at Cantaloupe.TV.

I wasn’t able to talk about it then, but couldn’t wait until it launched. The interface was amazingly simple and easy to use – straight forward for any small, medium or large business (or even professional blogger) who wishes to manage videos online.

In addition, there’s a banner/advertising management system where you can embed and change the ads on your videos. Note the click-through banner on the embedded video below as an example (at 1:11). You can place that wherever you’d like in the video – and you can change it whenever you’d like – regardless of whether you’ve already published the video. Very, very cool.

Check out the Backlight website for additional information. I think it’s incredibly forward-thinking of Cantaloupe to bring reporting and search engine optimization features into the product mix as well. Kudos to the Cantaloupe team on this incredible product launch!

Thanks for sharing! I’m intrigued but I’m curious… how is Backlight different than a site like YouTube, Viddler, or Vimeo? All of these sites also allow you to store and manage your videos on one place and embed them anywhere, as well as track stats. What is Backlight doing that’s different? Is the difference in the user interface?

YouTube, Viddler and Vimeo are all good services; however, there’s no support, no requirements of uptime, and some questionable terms of service as far as how they can utilize the content. The distribution on those channels is huge – but companies need to protect their content and have channels to produce it yourself.
