Michael Cloran met some business partners and me about a year ago. While other investment firms and investors made unkept promises and had us running in circles, Michael selflessly provided us with tons of honest feedback. We’ve subsequently shelved the project temporarily to reduce expenses and to bootstrap the project ourselves in the near future – the perfect decision at the time!
One of the ideas Michael had in the works and shared with me back then was Developer Town. Investment and venture firms gamble a ton of money on development. Some of the companies I work with have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to fix or redevelop applications that were either terribly developed or became money pits because neither the entrepreneur nor the firm understood how to select the right development firm.
Developer Town fixes the issue by being a Venture Development Firm. They have a solid application and infrastructure foundation that is already developed, proven and in place. When a client comes on board, Developer Town can get them up quicker and on a reliable platform that’s scalable and will grow with the company. Since all the developers in Developer Town have shares, they are a lot more dedicated and want to ensure the success of every client… far different from firms that are simply selling development hours for maximum dollars.
Beyond the logistics of the startup, Developer Town has its own unique methodology for keeping developers happy, working hard, and collaborating. Each developer has their own “house” on wheels (they also fit in a semi-trailer in the event of a move) and the houses are organized into “neighborhoods” to improve communication. Here’s a video tour of the facility and an explanation of the pitch:
Developer Town is already up and running with some clients that are already pulling in some great revenue! Don’t be surprised to see these folks begin to roll out tons of healthy startups – Michael’s firm is attracting the best developers around.
