Unlike this infographic, I don’t believe that television is dead… I just think it’s going through a transformation. With hundreds of channels, the advent of Tivo and high bandwidth, what hurt television was the impact to commercials… not really YouTube. And the infographic below talks about Google’s share price, but neglects to show that YouTube doesn’t make any money, either!

Personally, I think we’ll have television around for my lifetime and then some.

What is catching up, of course, is the ability for businesses to develop low cost video advertising. Television commercials could cost upwards of $60,000 to produce. Not anymore! You can now use an HD camera on your phone and free editing software to produce commercials at a fraction of the cost. So… video advertising will catch up.

As for YouTube versus Television… the two are merging. GoogleTV, AppleTV and others already have YouTube applications. Cable providers like Comcast or U-Verse stream video just like the Internet. There’s a convergence of the two technologies happening – and I like it!

DK New Media recently released the YouTube Sidebar Widget WordPress plugin out into the wild. Doug wanted a way for his most recent marketing YouTube videos to be accessible from the Marketing Technology Blog’s sidebar. So we made just that.

As you can probably tell from the name of the plugin, it is wigetized, and ready to drop into any WordPress theme that supports widgets. In the widget settings, you have the option to list a title for the section, you can specify the username of the YouTube user you want to retrieve videos from, decide if you want the video titles to be displayed, chose how many videos to retrieve, and lastly (this is where the plugin strives) the ability to add a filter to help retrieve specific videos instead of all of them.

To enable the widget, you simply add your username or the playlist you wish to use, as well as how many videos you wish to display.

We’ve even 1-up’d the plugin by adding a modal box that pops up and presents the video when one of the video thumbnails are clicked. You can download the plugin from the WordPress Plugin Repository.
