You Don’t Need an SEO Expert!

There… I said it! I said it because I see all of the money spent on search engine optimization by small to mid-size businesses and I think it’s a racket. Here’s my view of the search engine optimization industry: The majority of Search Engine Optimization falls within writing great content, attracting authoritative backlinks to that content and following a few important best practices. These are all basics that anyone can follow – but most do not. I still see a slew of new sites hitting the market that are image … Continue reading

Video: Content versus Backlinks

A lot of folks spend and sell their time on the optimization of their website, and wind up scratching their heads when another site has greater ranking but isn’t optimized. It’s because optimizing the content is only half the battle, it’s getting the attention of other sites that really pushes your site up the Search Results. The search engine’s job is to provide relevant results. If a lot of other well-respected sites point to you and say, “you are what you are!”, the Search Engines will pay more attention to … Continue reading

Brian’s Threaded Comments: Optimized

One of the plugins I love to run on my blog is Brian’s Threaded Comments. It allows for communications to be nested, organized and very easy to read and respond to. I’m not sure why the logic hasn’t been pulled into the core of WordPress, though. As I viewed the source of my pages, though, the plugin added quite a mess. Did a Search Engine Strategy Win the Super Bowl?

No, but we’d like to think that it did have some influence. We know that our efforts, at minimum, had a successful impact in the search engine results. At the time of announcement, Our 2012 Super Bowl wasn’t on any SERP – but by the announcement, we were the only city that had a site in the search engine results. It may have been lofty, but one of the goals that Pat Coyle and I had when Innovative launched the Super Bowl web site was to make sure the web … Continue reading

WordPress: Related Post Tweaking

Wordpress

If you’re using WordPress, one of your required plugins should be the Related Post plugin. That said, I noticed that the volume of keywords that were being posted with my Daily Reads were really skewing the Related Post results. As well, I was really surprised that the Related Posts plugin only provided a list of related posts before the post that you’re reading! What if you changed your mind (as I often do!)… shouldn’t you also provide posts that were released after the original but still related? As a result, … Continue reading

Blogger’s Blood Boils as SEO Misinformation Spreads

Posted by Christina Warren: To us, the type of SEO attacks revealed this week are only a few steps away from what tons of bloggers/websites do every day: purposely try to game search engines just so they can get more hits to their site, and by extension, maybe make a few extra dollars. Unless you are running a straight-up scam link-farm or very, very lucky — the highest search engine rank in the world is not going to have lasting benefits if the content is nonexistent. One Angry Wolf The … Continue reading
