Togather: Fansourcing for Authors

When you’re writing a book – especially your first – you quickly learn that you are the chief marketing officer and promotions expert for your book. It’s not your publisher’s responsibility but they don’t always tell you that. I assumed when I wrote my corporate blogging book that the marketing was all part of the package. Oops. Quite honestly, by the time I figured that out, it was too late. Togather is a free, online fansourcing platform that brings authors and audiences together. Author and eBook Marketing professional Jim Kukral … Continue reading

Social Media and Success: Cutting vs Prolonging

Cutting

Much of marketing success really comes down to two actions, cutting and prolonging. As we see a marketing strategy dry up and produce less results, the quicker we cut… the better our overall strategy performs. Likewise, as we see a strategy produce great results… we work hard to prolong the results. As an example, I try to do this on a daily basis with the blog. When I notice that their are a lot of Facebook likes but not a lot of Twitter retweets, I’ll push it out there again. … Continue reading

Bob Prosen Launches Small Business Accelerator

A few years ago, I read and thoroughly enjoyed Kiss Theory Goodbye, a book from Bob Prosen that provides sound advice for businesses. Bob’s business leadership and management training programs have dramatically increased performance and profitability and changed the culture at Sabre, Hitachi, Sprint, AT&T and hundreds of small businesses across the nation. Bob’s consulting and training are now in high demand – here’s a recent segment from MSNBC: Everyone is always asking how to rapidly increase performance and profit in their businesses. Seems that everyone wants to know the … Continue reading

Can’t versus Won’t

I’ve isolated many of the problems that I’ve found in businesses to can’t versus won’t. I love working with can’t. I hate working with won’t. Can’t can mean a lot of things. Can’t can be due to resources, regulations, education or authority. When you haven’t accomplished a goal because it can’t be done, you haven’t failed… something got in the way. Once you remove the roadblock, you’ll succeed. Won’t is different. Won’t leads to failure. Won’t happens because of fear, arrogance, pride, laziness or miscommunication. Won’t means that the goal … Continue reading

Technology: Easy Target, Not Always the Solution

Today’s business environment is tough and unforgiving. And it is getting more so. At least half of the visionary companies extolled in Jim Collins’ classic book Built to Last have slipped in performance and reputation in the decade since it was first published. One of the contributing factors I have observed is that few of the tough problems we face today are one dimensional – what appears to be a technology problem is seldom that simple. Your problem may manifest itself in the technology arena, but most often I find … Continue reading

About Your Next Meeting

I’ve been thinking a lot about meetings recently. Seth’s post on annual company events inspired me to begin formulating this post. As a person with a business of one employee, I’ve got to be absolutely careful of how many meetings I attend that are non-revenue generating. Each day, I am invited to a meeting – typically a cup of coffee or a lunch. Much of the time, they’re professional relationships or even leads so it’s non-revenue generating today, but tomorrow it may lead to something. These meetings are incredibly exciting… … Continue reading
