Google Advanced Search Variables Defined

GoogleYou may not have ever used it before, but Google’s Advanced Search is pretty useful. If you want to make your own Google Advanced Search you can build your own querystring utilizing these variables:

http://www.google.com/search?

Variable Description
as_q Search all words
as_epq Search exact phrase
as_oq At least one of the words
as_eq Without these words
num Number of results
as_ft Filetype (i = include, e=exclude)
as_filetype pdf, ps, doc, xls, ppt, rtf
as_qdr Last updated (m3 = 3 months, m6 = 6months, y = 1 year)
as_occt Occurs (title, body, url, links, any)
as_dt Domain (i = include, e=exclude)
as_sitesearch sitename.com
as_rights Copyrights (cc_publicdomain|cc_attribute|cc_sharealike|cc_noncommercial|cc_nonderived)
as_rq similar to page
lr Language (lang_en is English)
as_lq find pages that link to this page
safe =active for Safe Search

A couple of examples:
Find sites that link to my site:
http://www.google.com/search?as_lq=http%3A%2F%2Fdknewmedia.com

Find 10 Excel documents uploaded in the last 3 months about compounding interest:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=compounding+interest&num=10&as_ft=i&as_filetype=xls&as_qdr=m3

You can use these to build your own custom form if you’d like.

All of these options also convert to a notation that you can simply write in a Google Search text box as well:

Find sites that link to my site:
link:https://martech.zone

Find Excel documents about compounding interest:


compounding interest filetype:xls

Then you can get really good and search for sites with MP3’s from Beck (from Lifehacker):
-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(mp3) “Beck”
