Gmail: Relevant Advertising for SPAM?

Tonight I let out a little chuckle when I logged into Google Apps and clicked on my SPAM folder. I didn’t click on the advertisement, but I couldn’t help but wonder if this is what the advertiser really wanted to spend their pay per click budget on.

Hmm… Actually I’m more concerned that you probably didn’t take up the excellent opportunity offered by Mr. Bailey for the Swiss Branded Watch…

I’m sure an opportunity like that doesn’t come too very often…

What you’re observing is a long-time tradition for Gmail. When you are viewing the contents of your spam folder, instead of sponsored links, they put links to recipes involving Spam. Over in your trash folder, the links in the same spot are suggestions for recycling.

    Pretty nifty, eh?

I did not realize that, P.J.! I guess I had never taken notice before. Too funny.

I think the real question is…how does this spam quiche taste?

I think it will taste just like it sounds…DELICIOUS.

That’s kind of cool actually. :) Sort of like an inside (but not so inside joke) or easter egg. Recycling for trashed email? Nice. :)

I never opened my spam box for so long.. maybe years. It is keyword based, the spam box is the right targeted keyword for this advertiser.
