Software as a Service definitely kills the piracy bug... I suppose next will be applications that hack into SaaS apps. When I was discussing piracy - I should have said that I meant limited to media such as music, video, etc.

Great insight, thanks!

Hey there Doug,

I love your views and insights in my mail box everyday. Thanks much!

Recently I have been hearing some racket about what Web 3.0 will be. So, your post is timely. iTunes shows that people will be glad to purchase content on the straight and narrow if the 'paid for' experience is superior to the pirate 'experience'. (iTunes is now the #1 music retailer in the US)

I suppose that pirating content is a 'human condition' level of phenomenon but I would like to know what you think companies like Apple will be doing with Web 3.0, I guess that assumes that they will start doing something 2.0!

I have been writing a Foodie blog about the town I am currently bases in, Kyoto. I started about 8 months ago. I have referred to your site and progress a number of times over that period. Now I am to the point where I want to make it prime time. We are doing a little promotional survey now and giving out prizes for great ideas. Stop by if you like, and check out the food! We've got simmered chopped fish head, poison pufferfish fin seared and steeped in hot sake, and so on.

Check it out right here: <a href="http://kyotofoodie.com/survey-win-fine-japanese-junk-food-make-kyotofoodie-better/" rel="nofollow">KyotoFoodie 'Win Junk' Survey</a>.

Web 3.0 is going to be the 'Wild West all over again'? Ummm! I can't wait!! BRING - IT - ON!!!

Douglas,

I am interested in your comment about piracy in the new era that will be web 3.

I can see a scenario where by most applications will be used via a subscription method and the day is coming IMO when a new computer will almost be free providing that you agree to pay for your software usage via a metered method over your BB connection.

I have been watching the tussles of the companies in the streaming space and as endeavors technologies suggests, their application jukebox will become a major toll for IT depts and retail software outlets alike.
