When I wrote my predictions about 2008 being the Year of Micro, I didn’t expect some of the changes were arriving right in my own backyard. I just received a nice note from Jennifer Anderson-Henry at Wish TV. Jennifer and I both worked at The Indianapolis Star a few years ago.
Jennifer let me know that LIN, the parent company of WishTV, was launching IndyTube.TV.
IndyTube.TV is a user-generated content site provided to the Indianapolis community as a way to celebrate living in Indianapolis and to expose those in the Circle City to all the great culture, people and places that make our community unique.
From quirky finds on Mass Ave’s boutique shops to footage from a live band playing at our favorite bars in Broad Ripple, IndyTube.TV is the best of Indianapolis and the surrounding community.
We’ve launched this site because sites like YouTube simply are too large and too busy for Hoosiers to get their 15 minutes of fame. We’re partnering with a variety of local media and non-profits to help share the best of the best and we look forward to hearing from you to discover exciting ways we can make the most of this site.
This site succeeds with you…and we can’t wait to see what you have to say!
Furthermore, in 2008, We’ll be launching the Best of IndyTube on MyNDY 23! That’s right, post your videos online and you may appear on television for thousands to see!

It’s pretty awesome that a regional media corporation recognizes the Achilles’ heel of a monster like YouTube - they are simply too big! Everyone wants to feel as though they are part of a community, but they don’t like the overwhelming feeling that they are only a tiny, insignificant part of something that huge.
I didn’t know about IndyTube.TV when I wrote my predictions, but I’m excited that Indiana is leading the way at finding great technologies and applying them at the micro level like this!

All politics… er business… is local, Mike! We have to make the most impact closest to us. If I can’t move to Silicon Valley, I’m going to help build one here!
I’ve been agreeing with you all along and also stating that the issue on a macro level is that we are being inundated with too much information because the sites are too large and also too many people are capable of putting the information out there and there is no way to guarantee that the content is relevant and is of acceptable quality. The only way to get this is to have content experts validating the content or to have smaller communities where it is easier to control the information content.
I see this trend speeding up. Over the last month I have had four interviews with entrepreneurs launching sites that are niche or community oriented.
Thanks for this post. It just supports what I have been preaching to my constituents.
