Video: Why Retail Marketing should include Social Networking Technologies

David C Skul from the Relativity Blog does a great job at summing up the momentum of Web 2.0 technologies, including blogging, and its impact in the Retail space.

To sum up, buying behavior is changing and becoming more influenced by Word of Mouth marketing. Social networks and blogs provide the medium that empowers consumers to research and make their buying decisions. But it also provides a great medium for retailers to connect!

True True. Before most medium/large purchase I search the net for blogs/consumer stories, and reviews of any product.

Same for travel (i.e. airlines and lodging.) If a company, whether large or independent is not making their name known in web 2.0 they’re falling behind.

I think your comment about word of mouth is really important. It gets you thinking about creating the best content possible for distribution on social networks instead of obsessing about search engines.
