I thought for a long long time, and came up with the following formula, creatively named the Zhang of Blogs formula (Zen - Zhang, get it?):

R/RT - OT - CET + PO + PI = GPSP

if you don’t know what that means, here’s the interpretation:
recent/relevant topics - overused topics - close ended topics + personal opinion + personal interpretation = good place to start a post

I might recommending R/R/RT = Recent, Relevant and Referenced Topics. The mainstream media likes to blast blogs because many simply pass on untruths. Unlike the mainstream media, at least we can blast them when they do, though!
