It’s been about a year since I left ‘the’ job. After one of my former employees called me up and said she had left, we joked that maybe we should have a luncheon with all the folks who had moved on.

Today we did just that! We had a fantastic lunch at P.F. Changs. There was quite a mix of folks around the table - some left over a year ago, some a few weeks ago. What was evident from the moment we sat down for lunch was the ‘electric’ feeling in the air. There was an absolute noticeable change in everyone’s demeanor! Smiles were abound, excitement about new opportunities, and the appreciation each one of our new jobs had already given us (not to mention better wages and benefits).

If you are in a destructive work environment… get out! Now! Your job is not worth your health, your family, or your happiness. There are other jobs out there just waiting for you. All of us at the table were highly skilled and resourceful - all of us immediately landed on our feet. Not only did we land on our feet, we’re doing jobs now that we love.

Next quarter we’re going to have lunch again! I can’t wait to see some more happy faces added to the table. (Pssst… get out! Now!)

My wife and I just left our high-paying jobs of nearly a decade; we’ve never been happier. The money was astounding but our souls were numb and our health was indeed suffering. Not very many have this choice - at least not with our ‘parachute color’, but it was liberating to resign. I don’t care if I cut lawns to pay for life expenses.
