I have always been a news buff. I read 3 newspapers every week, I love working with the news on the Television behind me, I’m consistently reading some news on the net, or listening to news on the radio. I was quite sad yesterday at the passing of Peter Jennings. I believe he was a gentlemen and an incredibly talented journalist.
One of the reasons I switch sources so often is that I’m finding it more and more difficult to find news without a slant. My expectation of journalists is that they report the facts… all the facts, and then leave it up to us to make an informed decision. Having worked at newspapers for over a decade, I witnessed opinion being pushed further and further into the content, balance, and editing of the news. On television, I see more and more ‘journalists’ injecting their beliefs, sarcasm, and even disrespect into their broadcast. It’s unfortunate.
Mr. Jennings may have had some opinions but I did not see it in his reporting.
My condolences to his family. Today was the end of an era in American Television Journalism.
